Supporting Mental Health: Why I Back Reach Out For Mental Health

Writer: Lisa FawcettLisa Fawcett

As a business owner, I believe in using my platform to make a real impact—not just in the world of social media and business support, but in the wider community too. That’s why I’m proud to not only support but also run operations for Reach Out For Mental Health, a charity dedicated to offering compassionate, life-changing support for those struggling with their mental well-being.

Why Mental Health Matters

Mental health is just as important as physical health, yet so many people suffer in silence. Whether it’s stress, anxiety, depression, or suicidal thoughts, the right support can make all the difference. I’ve seen firsthand how vital it is to have someone to turn to, and that’s exactly what Reach Out For Mental Health provides—a listening ear, non-judgmental support, and a safe space for those who need it most.

About Reach Out For Mental Health

Reach Out For Mental Health (ROFMH) offers a variety of support for those struggling with suicidal thoughts. Their services include:

  • Coffee Afternoons – Safe, welcoming spaces facilitated by trained volunteers, many of whom have lived experience of mental health challenges, have supported someone close to them with suicidal thoughts, or have sadly lost someone to suicide.

  • Befriending Support – Over-the-phone support with trained volunteers who understand what it’s like to struggle with mental health.

  • FREE Counselling – Up to 12 weeks of free counselling with a trainee counsellor, available over the phone, online, or in-person, ensuring accessibility for those who need it most.

Port In A Storm – A Safe Space When You Need It Most

In addition to its core services, Reach Out For Mental Health also has an extended arm of the charity based in Harwich, called Port In A Storm. Port In A Storm is a place you can go or call when you are feeling suicidal, overwhelmed, or just need to talk things through with someone. This initiative provides specialised support to the Harwich community, ensuring that mental health support reaches those in coastal and rural areas where services may be harder to access. With a focus on listening, understanding, and supporting those in distress, Port In A Storm offers a vital lifeline to individuals in need.

My Role & How I Support The Charity

As Operations Manager for Reach Out For Mental Health, I play a hands-on role in ensuring the charity runs smoothly and effectively. This includes:

  • Managing day-to-day operations to ensure the charity continues to provide vital services.

  • Raising Awareness – Using my social media expertise to promote their services, helping more people find the support they need.

  • Event Support & Fundraising – Organising awareness events and fundraising initiatives to keep the charity thriving.

  • Community Outreach – Connecting with local businesses and individuals to encourage support and involvement.

How You Can Help

Supporting mental health isn’t just about donations—it’s about starting conversations, reducing stigma, and making sure no one feels alone. Here are a few ways you can get involved:

  • Follow & Share: Help spread awareness by following and sharing Reach Out For Mental Health’s content on social media.

  • Donate: Even small contributions go a long way in helping the charity continue its life-saving work. -

  • Get Involved: Whether it’s attending events, volunteering, or simply checking in on a friend, every action counts.

Final Thoughts

Mental health affects us all in some way, whether personally or through someone we care about. By supporting Reach Out For Mental Health and Port In A Storm, I hope to contribute to a world where people feel heard, supported, and never alone.
